Hilton from Jamaica, Issue #001 -- Are Books Dying?
February 27, 2013
Hello

GENERATIONS OF READERS ON THE SCREEN

As each new generation comes into being, reading on the screen becomes a part of their existence. They're so familiarized with it nowadays that they don't think of getting their information any other way than on the screen. A lot of them don't even ask their parents or teachers how to go about investigating any given subject matter, instead they'll tell you to google it, and ninety-nine percent of the time they find what they want. As this trend of googling things continue to grow and their gizmos, gadgets and devices become more and more sophisticated, they forget about doing any kind of research in books, dictionaries or encyclopedias. They just google it as is popularly understood among themselves. They don't even think of looking for what they’re interested in elsewhere. They're so accustomed to reading on the screen that doing it in books has become a thing of the past for them. As a matter of the fact, the majority of kids who can read and have access to a computer and the Internet don't even stop to think that there are other ways of reading. They're quite satisfied with doing it on the screen and this trend is going to continue in the future making it hard to think that books, as we know them today, won't disappear.
